Arriving throughout the day, six yachts from Portland's SIYC travelled to Hadley's Landing on the Multnomah Channel for our annual Thanksgiving Cruise.  Gail and Nick Wigen of Ursa Minor, Michele and Terry Wilson of Conch, Norm Petersen from Ya Shure, Garry Weber from Cambria, Dave Mangan of Hawksbill and Susan and Peter Gierga of the SV Penelope tied up to the dock under partly cloudy, partly sunny, sometimes windy and sometimes calm conditions.  Others to arrive via land travel were Craig Johnston, Commodore, and Ed and Marianne Mullowney.

Dave Magnum, our gracious host, had started early.  He bagan cooking a 17 lb turkey on a barbeque long before anyone else arrived.  Within a few hours he produced a succulent, juicy, perfectly basted Thanksgiving turkey.  Others brought fruit salad, vegetables, rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing and, of course, several kinds of pies and cakes.

We sheltered ourselves under a tent frame and tarps to stay out of the blistery conditions.  Dave built a fire in an old commercial size wash tub taken from an abandoned washing machine.  The tub was mounted on legs and the drain holes in the tub provided perfect air passage to create a wonderful, clean burning fire.

We shared a bottle of wine and sat near the fire, grateful for the warmth and the warm conversation.  As the evening passed the wind and the rain began to pick up.  Just before we were all blown into the drink the men dismantled the tent and we all made way to our respective boats for a rockin' and rollin' night on the water.

Following off and on sprinkles, the sun came out on Sunday.  All nine participants came aboard Penelope bringing pastries, bacon, three kinds of eggs, potatoes, fruit salad, orange juice and coffee.  A marvelous breakfast appeared at our table.  Once the sun was shining in earnest, about noon, we once again boarded our respective yachts, bid our fond farewells and sailed or motored back to our home morages.  The Thanksgiving Cruise was a success and those who participated have created for themselves one more lovely memory on the water.
